Most laundromat owners live within a short drive of their stores. Steven Nunez does not.
In this episode of the Laundry Nerd Podcast, Speed Queen® sits down with the owner of The Laundry Room to talk about remote laundromat management and building a team you can trust from far away.
Steven owns four commercial laundromats in Florida, three in Orlando and one in Miami, offering self-service, wash-dry-fold, laundry pickup and delivery and dry cleaning. Our latest podcast dives into how he runs his businesses from another state.
Why Distance Forced a Better Way to Run a Laundromat Business
Steven took a big leap and left a corporate career in Manhattan to open his first store in 2020. Early on, he did what most new owners do: checked reports daily, tracked deposits and stayed on the phone.
Steven explains how not being able to walk into his own stores pushed him toward a very different way of running them, how laundromat technology plays a big role in his day-to-day and why that's helped him grow his business as fast as it has.
"Being so far remote has actually helped me grow as quickly as we have, because I have been able to focus my time and energy on the long-term strategy and vision as opposed to cleaning lint trays."

Lessons From the Laundry Room
Steven gets candid about what scaling a commercial laundromat business really takes. His first store was the largest investment he had ever made, even bigger than his first home. So, when new owners ask him about starting a laundromat business far from where they live, his answer isn't what you might expect.
